Letter to Meryl Streep

Open letter from Giada Buonasorte to Meryl Streep
“My one and only always and for ever”

Dear Meryl Streep,
I know you’ll never read this but I want to try my best.
My name is Giada and I’m from Italy, I’m 17 years old and I’m in love with you since I was 5. In 2008 I went to the cinema for “Mamma mia” I was a child, but when you appeared on the screen I immediately got mesmerised from this incredibly beautiful and charismatic blonde woman that I thought was the most beautiful woman ever (I still think this). I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for the entire movie, and when it was over I was overwhelmed and speechless. There started “our” story, I was obsessed with that film (that is still my very first favourite movie) with ABBA songs, and obviously with you. I was a child but I started doing research of you, I found out that your name was “Mary Louise Streep” and I started talking about you with litterally ANYONE in my life, even if my english wasn’t that good and my pronunciation of your name was very funny. For my whole (even if short) life I always brought you in my heart as my favourite actress ever, and it always will be in this way, cause you’re “my one and only”. You’re my biggest inspiration, and because of you I started to love cinema, movie and acting. I almost see you as a real person in my life ‘cause you’ve always been there. I know you won’t read this but I felt the extremely strong need to tell you how much you mean for me. Even if there are other important figures in my life as a young woman, like Cate Blanchett who is my second favourite actress and I think she’s your Australian version, you’ll always have a special place in my heart, and when I’ll hear someone say “Meryl streep” I’ll always be ready to ask: “you mean the greatest actress and artist ever? Yes I know her, she’s my one and only”. Always and for ever the image of you as Donna Sheridan singing “Super trouper” or “slipping through my fingers” will be my comfort though. 🤍 You’re great.
