Pedro Almodóvar

Open letter from Marie Cardinal to Pedro Almodóvar
“Almodovar y Salvador (Dali)”

Thursday 10 September 2020,

Querido y admirado senor Pedro Almodovar,

I am french and does not know spanish, please accept my apologies.
We are making a dvd edition of the film by Pierre cardinal, my father, with Salvador Dalí, directed in 1961.
I can send you the movie.
This film was banned at the time and remained hidden for a long time.
The film became a cult afterwards and has been shown at exhibitions since. We can see parts of it on Ina website.
This quality edition wants to give back to this film its fullness and its value.
I see the astonishing singularity of your work as a - perhaps unconscious - legacy or continuation with Dali : an eminently subversive and fantastical way of summoning intimacy.
I was not surprised to discover that the name of the character of 'Pain and Glory' is.... Salvador.

This dvd edition will be translated into a dozen languages and we are preparing a booklet :
with unpublished texts by Miquel de Palol, Catherine Millet, Jean-Hubert Martin.
We would like to propose to you to collaborate with the booklet with a short text or if you prefer a short interview that will be added to the film.
We woulb be honored of it.
Each contribution is (modestly) remunerated.
I am at your disposal to send you the film and other documents.
Estoy a su disposición para enviarle la película y otros documentos.....
Mil saludos respetuosos
Marie Cardinal
